Composting Toilets

December 3, 2008

For those of you interested in sustainability, environmental stewardship and living “green”, you may be wondering, “What is an eco-toilet?” And for those of you who don’t really care…maybe you will still think this is interesting.

In a nutshell, eco-toilets use human waste to create fertilizer. Instead of allowing the waste to seep into the water table and compromise the health of entire communities, the waste is pumped out and made into fertilizer to help nourish entire communities.

For more information on eco-toilets and how they work, you can read a couple of interesting reports about projects in India:

  1. Imagine if every house has this eco-toilet, we would have fertilizers that can cover all lands in this planet. Now that’s something good out of the waste.
